Baby Birthday
From LoveToKnow Baby
Baby's first birthday deserves a special baby birthday party. Birthday parties don't have to be difficult, however, so keep in mind the following points.
Age Matters
When it comes to planning the perfect baby birthday party, age really does matter. If this is going to be your little one's first party, be sure you plan an event that she will enjoy. One year olds can become overwhelmed pretty easily, so try not to go overboard on the excitment. In fact, you may want to limit her party to a few close friends and family memembers.
If your child has progressed past her first party, she may be more willing to join in the celebration. Still, it is a good idea to keep the party at a manageable size. A good rule of thumb is to invite as many children as the age of the birthday child. Of course, with a one or two year old, that limits the amount of party guests, However, the point should be that you invite only enough children to ensure that everyone has a good time.
Magnified Expectations
Parents often have a few unrealistic dreams about the type of party their child will enjoy. This may include clowns, magicians, ponies, inflatable slides, etc. While all of these things are certainly entertaining, they may not be appropriate for a baby's birthday. As a parent, you may need to lower your expectations of what a perfect party really should be!
If your baby birthday party has the birthday honoree and guests smiling, laughing, and enjoying each other, then your party is a success. However, if your party ends with your little one crying and refusing to eat that adorable cake, and you notice the other children rubbing their eyes and whining because they are overstimulated and tired, you may dread the next birthday that rolls around.
Good Baby Birthday Planning
Good planning is essential to creating the perfect baby birthday. While you certainly can't work around every child's nap and dinner schedules, you can work around your own. If your child typically takes a nap in the afternoon, you shouldn't plan your party at that time. The ideal time to schedule a baby's birthday party is when you know he will be well-rested and not hungry. He will enjoy his party so much more if he feels good, and so will you!
Try to have an inclement weather plan if you are holding at least part of the party outside. If you have an enclosed garage, be prepared to move the party into it or into another area, such as a basement. Make these plans ahead of time, so that you aren't caught off guard at the last minute.
Do as much of the preparation as you can before the party. Your little one may become extra clingy to you, especially if there are a lot of people around. You'll want to spend this time with your child, not running around trying to do everything at the last minute. If your child is crying for you, do your best to reassure and comfort him, and let someone else do some of the work.
With good planning and forethought, you can create the perfect birthday for your baby!
