Baby Birthday Cake
From LoveToKnow Baby
Once you've determined the time and the place of your baby's birthday, it is time to choose the baby birthday cake. With so many options, however, how do you choose?
Age Appropriate
If this is your child's first birthday party, you can probably choose the cake without too much trouble. She'll love anything you pick as long as it is yummy! You can visit several area bakeries and ask to see the various patterns they have available.
One important question that you'll need to ask, however, is if they also give a "smash cake" along with the birthday cake. A "smash cake" is a smaller version of the birthday cake that is for your baby's hands and tummy only! She may be one of those babies who dives right in face first, or she may stare at the cake and then at you as if to say, "What do I do with this?" Either way, this cake is specially made for her alone, and it doesn't matter how messy she or the cake gets! The actual birthday cake can be for the guests, but of course you and your baby will get the leftovers later!
Baby Birthday Cake Ideas
If your toddler is celebrating her birthday, she may have specific ideas about what she prefers for her cake. If she does, why not let her help you pick it out? Go ahead and take her with you to the bakery, and let her look through the pictures with you. If she doesn't see anything she likes, you might simply want to buy a cake decorating kit and create your own kit. In fact, you may find several great baby birthday cake ideas on the Internet. Don't forget to ask for recommendations from friends and family about local bakeries and self-employed cake designers, too.
Baby Birthday Cake Themes
There are so many themes available for parents and children to choose from that it can be difficult to make the right choice. If your child is enamored with a certain character off of the television, then you have a good place to start. Sometimes, parents like to look at all the decorations available first, before they actually select the cake.
You can often find discount cake accessories, including plates, cups, napkins, tablecloths, and cake toppings, at local dollar stores. Many of these stores buy closeout items from larger department stores, and they sell them at a fraction of the cost. Don't forget to search for cake accessories online, and you may even find what you are looking for at an Internet auction site.
Popular characters include Dora the Explorer, the Wiggles, Winnie the Pooh, Spiderman, Barney, Thomas the Tank Engine, Teletubbies, Princess themes, My Little Pony, and Sesame Street characters, such as Elmo, Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Grover. Themed cakes might include sports themes, animal themes, balloon themes, cowboy themes, flower themes, etc.
Preserve the Memories
Be sure you take lots of the pictures of the cake and your little guy during his party. If you purchased a cake that has inedible characters on the top, be sure you put some of those away in his keepsake box. As far as the rest of the cake goes, after you've preserved the memory of it in photos and video, dig in!
