Pajama Fun
Pajamas aren't just for sleeping any more. Many parents choose baby boy's Christmas pajamas for their sons to wear during photo sessions. In fact, you may know friends and relatives who dressed their little sweeties in pajamas for their Christmas card photos and other occasions. Today's pajama styles are so versatile that your child can play and sleep in them.
Size Matters
Buying Christmas pajamas after the holiday season can mean lots of savings for you, but how do you know what size to buy? For infants and toddlers, you may be able to make a good guess as to your child's size a year from now. You may even get the pajamas at such a low price that it doesn't matter if you miss your mark regarding the fit.
However, size does matter at least to some extent. Pajamas need to fit more snugly than regular clothes to eliminate the risk of strangulation. Your child's pajamas shouldn't be constricting, but they also don't need to be too large. This is especially important for babies.
Choosing a Style
Baby boy's Christmas pajamas come in a variety of styles, and each style has its good and bad features.
- Footed One-Piece Pajamas: These are especially good for infants and toddlers who are still in diapers. With footed one piece pajamas, you don't have to worry about your baby's body being uncovered anywhere. From his feet to his neck, he'll be snug and warm. Since you don’t want to use loose-fitting covers in your child's crib, this really is a great option. Footed one-piece pajamas typically have a zipper in the front for easy access.
- Footed Two-Piece Pajamas: Footed two-piece pajamas are perfect for toddlers who are in the midst of potty training or are already potty trained. Two-piece pajamas allow your toddler to get to the potty much more easily than one-piece pajamas, an important feature during the potty training stage.
- No-feet Pajamas: These come in one and two-piece styles. You'll need to put socks on your child's feet to keep him warm at night, but this style can actually be worn with shoes, which is a great feature for a toddler if you plan on letting him wear them outside your home.
Safety Issues
In the past, many parents chose pajamas strictly on the condition that they were flame retardant. Today, this issue has become quite controversial. Now, only about 1 percent of kids' pajamas are actually treated with flame retardant chemicals.
Why should parents be concerned? There is a difference between the terms flame retardant and flame resistant.
- Flame Retardant: Flame retardant refers to clothing that has been treated with a brominated chemical. While this chemical can reduce the risk of the clothing catching on fire, the chemicals that are used to treat the item of clothing may actually harm the environment and the human body. Most children's pajamas that are manufactured today do not use these brominated flame retardants, however.
- Flame Resistant: Certain fabrics are actually considered flame resistant, and these include polyester. While polyester might be considered a safe fabric, many parents complain about its inability to breathe. Babies may experience more skin rashes when wearing polyester, and some environmentalist believe that polyester harms the environment.
For some parents, the answer is to purchase 100 percent all natural cotton. There are also kids' clothing brands that are made of treated cotton materials.
