Is It a Boy or a Girl?

Some parents just have to find out the gender of their unborn child. Maybe they want to plan everything out completely, or maybe curiosity just gets the best of them. If you are planning on finding out your baby's gender, this may help you narrow down your choices for baby nursery bedding. In fact, many parents actually design the rest of the nursery based on the bedding or crib sets they've chosen for the baby bed.

If you don't want to find out your baby's sex, however, there is still plenty of nursery bedding choices to choose from. All you have to do is decide which pattern, color, theme, etc. that you like best. That might just be easier said than done, though, once you begin looking!

Baby Nursery Bedding for a Boy's Room

If you are expecting a little boy, of course there are the obvious themes that you can look for when checking out the various nursery bedding. You'll probably find sporting crib sets, teddy bear bedding, automobile blankets, cowboy bumper pads, and so on...

As you look at each type of nursery crib set, pay attention to the colors and textures. You should also think about what room your baby will use. Will you need to paint? If so, will you be willing to repaint the room when the boy gets a little older and outgrows the baby theme, or do you want to stay with something than can be easily changed by switching bedding to accommodate an older child? Are you planning on using wallpaper or borders to go around the room, and if so, what type of pattern do you envision on the walls. All of these things should be considered when you choose your baby's nursery bedding and subsequently the nursery theme.

Baby Nursery Bedding for a Girl's Room

If you are expecting a little girl, some people might think that this is a little easier to handle. After all, a candy pink baby's room can easily work as a candy pink pre-teen's room, too. You may want to go with flowers, hearts, puppies or kittens. You might like checks and stripes or gingham and lace.

Whatever baby nursery bedding you choose, be sure there is a color in that bedding that can be incorporated throughout the room and implemented in other fabrics and accessories.

Boy or Girl Nursery Sets

Of course, even if you don't find out the gender of your child because you simply love surprises, you can still find plenty of workable nursery bedding that would fit a boy or a girl. You no longer have to stick to the traditional green or yellow colors simply because you don't know the gender of your child.

Who says girls can't love a baby blue room? Once she's born, incorporate some lace in white, pink, or yellow to make it more feminine. Red has become increasingly popular in babies' rooms, and you can accent that red with other colors and accessories once the baby is here. Add a touch of navy or denim blue for a little boy, or mix in some pretty pink and white with the red for a little girl. Bright green also works well with red. If you don't believe it, check out some decorating books and websites.

Bedding Safety

Finally, you shouldn't just consider colors and textures when thinking about what to use for your baby's nursery bedding. Bumper pads are a must, and they should be fastened firmly to the crib's sides. Sheets should fit the mattress snugly, also. However, don't use any blankets, loose sheets, pillows, or animals in your baby's crib to reduce the incidence of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). If you have a darling blanket that really needs to be seen, use it as a wall hanging or drape it across a rocking chair. Choosing nursery bedding doesn't have to be a big challenge. In fact, it can be lots of fun!
