Nursery Necessities

Before you settle on nursery themes, you might want to consider all of the nursery necessities that your baby will need. Some of these items will only be used for a short period of time until your infant outgrows them. Some of the bigger items include the following:

  1. Baby bed
  2. Bassinet (optional)
  3. Rocker or glider
  4. Changing table
  5. Stroller
  6. Car Seat
  7. Bouncer
  8. Dresser or chest

Of course, along with these larger items are the smaller but still just as necessary supplies. These may include the following:

  1. Bumper pads and comforter set
  2. Fitted crib sheets
  3. Dust ruffle
  4. Curtains
  5. Diaper hanger
  6. Diaper bag

Coordinating Supplies for Baby Nursery Themes

Once you've made a list of everything your little one will need, you can begin to look at the various selections available. If you want to coordinate as many of your baby's supplies as possible, you probably need to pick one main object and work from there. You can add additional supplies and accessories to complement the purchases you already have.

Bedding Basics

It might be easier to choose the nursery bedding and develop your baby nursery themes from the comforter and bumper padding set. You can typically find a large selection of crib sets available at department stores and on the Internet, either from an Internet store or online auction site.

For example, if you really love Winnie-the-Pooh, go ahead and peruse all of the Pooh choices you can find. Once you've selected your favorite, you can decorate the rest of the room based on the crib set. You can choose colors and accessories, and you can even search for darling stuffed animals that match your theme.

Baby Nursery Themes

Choosing baby nursery themes can be a bit overwhelming, but the following categories can help you narrow your choices just a bit.

Character Themes

Characters are always popular theme choices, and you can find just about any character online or in your local department store. Check out the following character designs for ideas:

Animal Themes

Animal themes work great for little girls' and little boys' rooms. Not only are they great for babies, but you can often rework a typical animal theme as your child grows. Change your baby's bed to a toddler bed, keep the same colors and designs, and the theme you choose could last for your child into elementary school. Popular animal themes include the following:

Sports Themes

Sports themes are often popular choices for little boys' rooms. You may not know what sport your baby boy will play when he gets a little older, but you can introduce him to one game or a multitude of games with themes like the following:

Other Themes

Still haven't found what you are looking for? There are so many more themes to choose from, including western themes, sailing themes, floral designs, and more. Some of these themes are strictly suitable for either a boy or a girl. Others will work for either gender. Many of these will also follow your baby as he transitions into a toddler and even into his elementary school years. Take a look!

Budget Choices

The great advantage about decorating your baby's nursery is the fact that you really can decorate even on a small budget. Of course, if you can afford all new furniture, bedding, and accessories from an upscale specialty store, then have fun shopping!

You don't have to have a fat wallet, however, to create a darling nursery for your baby. You can find wonderful bargains on all sorts of baby items at consignment sales and shops, yard sales, and online auctions. Many of these items may be just like new but cost a fraction of the original price. Once you've found your bargain crib set, invest in a good gallon or two of paint. Simply repainting the walls of the nursery will go a long way to creating a new look.

Next, you could visit your local fabric supply stores and search through the bargain tables for coordinating fabric. Don't worry if you're really not a seamstress! You can make adorable no-sew curtains using binding tape or a hot glue gun. Embellish your new curtains with coordinating ribbon, and you've got beautiful and inexpensive window treatments!

Finally, you can add a few special accessories, such as stuffed animals or figurines without breaking the bank. When you are searching through the local consignment sales, shops, and yard sales, don't forget to check out the stuffed animals and figurines for sale. You may find the perfect items to accent the nursery for a few dollars!

Breathe a Sigh of Relief

Don't forget to step back, admire your handiwork, and give yourself a pat on the back. You deserve it, and your baby will love his or her new room that has been decorated with all of your love! .
