Baby showers are celebrations of joy for the expectant parents, as well as a way for family and friends to offer baby shower gifts. Usually, quite a bit of planning goes into creating a baby shower. Of course, the easiest thing to do would be to ask the expectant mom what she would like as a gift. The problem with this, however, is that she might tell several people about many of the same items. Most expectant parents usually register at local department stores, and this is where you might want to begin your search.
Be sure you inquire about the various stores that the new mom has registered at. Once you get to the store, there will typically be a small computerized monitor that will print out the parents' wish list, and the items that have already been purchased by someone else will be marked off. If you can't find this type of set-up, but you know that the soon-to-be new mom has registered at that particular store, be sure you ask customer service for a list of items that she has selected..
Unique Baby Shower Gifts
Of course, some people prefer to buy unique gifts, or they just can't make it to a particular department store before the shower. There are still plenty of options to choose from, though.
Monogramming just about anything is very popular, so if the new parents already know the gender of their unborn child, and they have already chosen a name, you might want to have an item monogrammed. If they still aren't sure about gender and/or name, you could still buy an item for the shower and pay for the monogramming. Once the baby has arrived, then you or the parents can take the item to monogrammed. Monogrammed items could include a diaper bag, blanket, burp cloths, clothing items, Bible, books, assorted nursery decorations, etc.
There are plenty of other unique gifts to give, too. Why not purchase a hand or foot casting kit. The new parents can easily cast the tiny hand or foot of their newborn, preserving that precious memory for a lifetime. Practical Baby Shower Gifts
Of course, many parents enjoy practical baby shower gifts even more than they enjoy unique ones. One of the most practical gifts you can give is diapers. After all, parents of newborns can never have too many diapers, right?
Why not create a great gift basket? The basket could be filled with baby essentials and accessories including diapers, wipes, ointment, lotions, shampoos, socks, brushes, digital thermometer, bath toys, towels, wash cloths, onesies, etc. You could place everything into a pretty basket that can be used as a clothes hamper or toy storage in the new nursery.
Special Mom or Dad Gifts
Finally, while most of the baby shower gifts will be focused around the baby, you could also place a special gift for the new mom and/or dad. Give mom a gift basket filled with candles, lotions, scented soaps, and even herbal tea. Dad might enjoy a few books on handling fatherhood, along with a yummy treat or two. You really don't have to spend a lot of money to give the perfect baby shower gift!
