Ladybug décor for nursery themes continue to be a popular choice for baby girls' rooms.
Ladybug Decor for Nursery: Tips and Ideas
You've selected the general theme, but now it's time to get to work. A ladybug décor for nursery rooms is a fantastic way to create a one-of-kind haven for your baby girl. Purchasing the nursery bedding is the simple part. Now, you have to create the rest of the room with paint, furniture and accessories. How do you play up the ladybug theme without overwhelming the room?
First, choose a paint color directly from the nursery bedding you've chosen. Did you purchase the traditional ladybug colors of red and black, or did you go for a more whimsical design with different colors, such pink and green or pink and black?
It's typically a better choice to paint the walls one of the accent colors from your bedding instead of the primary color to avoid too much of a good thing. You can also use a crisp, clean white paint that will play up all of the brighter colors associated with the ladybug pattern.
Once you've painted your walls, take a look around the room and decide if the doorway, window trim, and baseboards need a new color or just a fresh coat of paint.
Murals and Wall Art
One of the simplest ways to dress up a room is to add a wall mural or wall art. If you think these options are only limited to those creative people who can draw and paint, think again. Murals can be created with peel-and-stick appliqués that are easily applied and just as easily removed once your baby has outgrown the ladybug theme. Smaller wall stickers are just as easy to use, and they immediately add "pop" to a room. Check out wall decals and wall stickers at websites like Toys R Us, J.C. Penney and My Growing Child.
Paint It Yourself
If you are handy with a paint brush, then paint or even stencil some ladybugs on the walls yourself. You can add other images, like flowers, vines, and even other fun insects, such as bees, butterflies, etc. You can even tackle a whole wall by creating a garden scene, complete with clouds, grass, trees, flowers, and a bright, white picket fence on which vines and ladybugs climb. Craft stores like Hobby Lobby usually have a great selection of stencils and acrylic paint.
Furniture
If you aren't comfortable putting anything on the walls, you can play up the ladybug theme by painting the nursery furniture. Add ladybugs along crib walls, down the slats of wooden rockers, and even on lampshades and doors. Furniture in either natural wood or white works best for this idea.
Accessories
Ladybug décor for nursery accessories can include appliquéd throws and pillows, framed needlework, and quilts hung on the wall. Look for ceramic and wooden ladybugs to place around the room. Purchase inexpensive artwork and frame them yourself to place on the walls and bookshelves. Find a large stuffed ladybug to put in the corner of the room, just waiting for a little one to play with.
Curtains
Curtains can be another simple do-it-yourself project. Find material in colors that match the accent color of the bedding. You could also purchase an extra set of coordinating sheets to use as curtains. Find a few small ladybugs at your local dollar store, and use them as tiebacks by gluing elastic to their backs. You could also add a few miniature ladybugs onto the material with glue to create a 3-D look for the curtains.
Once those creative juices begin to flow, you can create a ladybug nursery that will be filled with whimsy and wonder for your little one to discover. As she enters the toddler years, you can change out some of the accessories, furniture, etc., to make the room grow along with her.
