Medela Breast Pump: Pump in Style Review
From LoveToKnow Baby
Do You Need a Breast Pump?
Okay, let's start by saying this. No one really wants a breast pump. We use breast pumps because we need them. Generally, a woman pumps her breast milk either because she needs to express it so that baby can eat when she cannot be with her, or because for some other reason baby cannot drink directly from mom's breast.
One of the most common reasons women purchase breast pumps is that they are returning to work while they are still breastfeeding. Since there are health advantages to a baby having breast milk for as long as possible, women often pump and store their breast milk to be fed to baby by a caregiver while mom is at work. Mothers may also pump breast milk if they need to be away from their babies for other reasons, even for short durations.
In some instances, babies are not very cooperative with the breastfeeding process. Some babies refuse to latch onto the breast, especially if they are fed from a bottle (which is easier to suck) early on. In this case, some mothers pump their milk to ensure their babies get the health benefits of breast milk consumption, even if they won't drink it straight from the breast.
Medela Breast Pumps
That said, if you do need to get a breast pump, you should definitely consider the Medela ones. Medela manufactures a full line of breast pumps, including hospital grade ones and has a complete line with options for nearly any pumping need. They are highly respected by medical professionals and lactation consultants and are one of the leaders in the breast pump industry.
Medela Pump in Style Breast Pump Pros
Medela pumps are some of the strongest available. Since it takes a fair amount of power to express the milk and encourage additional production, the strength of the pump is very important. In addition, Medela pumps have many settings, allowing women to customize them for their individual needs.
The Pump in Style comes in a convenient carrying case and allows a woman to pump from both sides simultaneously. This is a time saver, especially for women who are trying to pump during breaks in their busy workdays. The case also has an insulated compartment that can be used with icepacks for convenient milk storage. It uses standard AC power (electric outlet) and has a handy battery pack so it can be used virtually anywhere that offers a little privacy.
Many of the competing products are too weak to express much milk, especially if a woman is producing a small amount or is new to breastfeeding.
Medela Pump in Style Breast Pump Cons
The biggest disadvantage to the Medela pumps is their price. These products are expensive, with the Pump in Style selling for well over $200. However, if you consider the convenience to you and the health of your baby, the cost may not seem so formidable. Still not convinced? Price baby formula and you will quickly find that breast milk, even with an expensive pump, starts to look like a bargain.

I was able to express 4-5 ozs in less than 15 minutes and my son was able to receive the great benefits of breastmilk!! And I was relieved of the sore bleeding nipples!!
