No parent hopes to have her baby early, however, it does happen. Most parents are not prepared for a preemie. There are many things you can do to help the parents through this joyous and stressful time in their life.
Preemie Gift Basket
There are many places you can purchase a preemie gift basket. You can go online, or visit a local gift shop. If you can’t find one or need it right away, consider making your own. When choosing items for baby, keep in mind how long the baby will be in the hospital.
- Basket: Baskets can be found at most stores that carry home items. Find a basket that has a reusable purpose. Some examples of reusable baskets are a picnic basket for future picnics, a laundry basket, or a toy basket. Make sure the basket is big enough to hold everything you need.
- Onesies, preemie sized: Though mom and dad will probably have a ton of onesies, they are probably not prepared with preemie sizes. Every baby needs lots of onesies.
- Sleepers: Buy one or two sleepers for baby to lounge in. Keep the weather for the next few months in mind when choosing the cloth.
- A cute outfit or two: All new babies need a cute outfit or two for mom to show her off in! Babies grow fast, so don’t go crazy.
- Soft blanket: If you shop around, you’ll find lots of great baby blankets to choose from. Pick one that is soft and will grow with baby.
- A stuffed animal: Something cute, soft and cuddly for baby to sleep with.
- A children’s book: Help raise a reader with a great baby book of nursery rhymes or a classic story. Board or cloth books are great for young children who want to turn the pages.
- Lullabies CD: To help baby fall asleep.
