Premature Baby Freebies
From LoveToKnow Baby
Taking care of a preemie can leave parents scrambling for baby supplies, but premature baby freebies can help.
Stocking the Nursery
While some parents know in advance that their baby will be born prematurely, others are taken completely by surprise. Many moms and dads may not have begun to stock the nursery or even furnish the baby's room. While others may have the nursery ready, previously held baby showers may have yielded clothing and other items that are only suited for a full-term baby.
Unfortunately, preemie baby items can be difficult to find. Even the typical baby freebies that are offered from baby catalogs, websites, and the hospital may not fit a preemie. Dealing with a baby born prematurely includes the constant worry about the infant's health status and development, along with the concerns about exploding hospital bills. What can those close to the new family do to help?
- Offer help and support. This may be as simple as dropping in at the hospital to sit with mom and dad while they remain close to their newborn. It may also mean stocking their freezer with ready-to-heat meals for when they finally get to come home, cleaning their house, washing their clothes, cutting their grass, and looking after any other children they may have at home.
- Look for baby items. Most likely, the clothing that is in the baby's room simply won't fit a preemie. This includes diapers, and it can be difficult to find appropriate items that are smaller in size. The new mom and dad certainly won't have to time to seek preemie baby supplies much less search for premature baby freebies, so doing this for them will be a huge help!
