Pull Ups
From LoveToKnow Baby
Many parents prefer using Pull-ups training pants once their child starts potty training. The choice is a very personal one, and you'll have to decide what is best for your toddler.
What Are Pull Ups?
Pull Ups are actually the brand name of a type of disposable training pants. Because potty training can be a stressful time for parents and toddlers, many parents choose to help their children make the transition from diapers to training pants a gradual one. Pull Ups make that possible.
Although they might feel like diapers, Pull Ups do have the advantage of being designed for easy pulling up and down. In other words, toddlers still have the protection of a diaper, but they also have more control over their bodies. They can use the potty by themselves or with a little help from mom or dad, but they also have extra protection in case they have an accident.
Pull Ups Night Time Training Pants
For those parents who don't want their child to use Pull Ups during the day, there is the option of Pull Ups Night Time Training Pants. These pants are designed to be extra-absorbent, while at the same time still they offer a toddler the chance to use the potty if she needs to. Some parents might prefer regular training pants during the day, but they choose to use these night time training pants for extra protection as their child begins potty training.
Cool Alert System
Pull Ups Training Pants With Cool Alert is a newly designed type of training pant that actually lets a child feel cool within a few seconds of his wetting his training pants. There is an approximately 3x3 inch patch in the training pants which contains Sorbitol, a sugar-like material that is used as a sweetener in gum or as a skin softening emollient. This alert system can aid parents in potty training their child.
Positives
As with many products, there are those who sing Pull-Ups' praises, while others choose to not use them. The positives include the following:
- They are disposable.
- They are great to use when traveling or anytime away from home.
- They are easy for a child to pull up and down.
- They work like diapers, so they are especially absorbent.
- They may be a good way to begin potty training.
Negatives
Some parents refuse to use disposable training pants such as Pull Ups on their children, and here's why:
- They are disposable and create the same problems at landfills as disposable diapers do.
- They don't allow a child to really feel what it is like to be soiled (although newer designs do more to give the child a sensation of wetness).
- They don't really help a child potty train because they feel too much like diaper.
Personal Preference
Finally, the decision to use or not to use Pull-Ups on your child is a personal one. Many parents prefer to begin potty training their children by using disposable training pants, such as Pull-Ups. They like the extra protection that they offer. Some parents use cloth training pants on their children during the day and switch over to Pull-Ups at night. Some parents also prefer to use Pull-Ups on their children in the early weeks of potty training when they have to be away from home. The choice is yours. You can always let your child try them for a short period of time and stop later.
